About golf in Scotland
Scotland is the home of golf. The R&A counted 594 golf courses in Scotland at the end of 2020 (The R&A, Golf Around the World 2021). Whether you want Open Championship history or a quiet Highland round, Scotland still delivers.
The Kingdom of Fife is home to St Andrews, with the Old Course and the Royal & Ancient Golf Club. Along the coast, the East Neuk adds Crail and Elie, with Lundin Links a short drive to the west.
The Ayrshire coast south of Glasgow offers Royal Troon, Turnberry's Ailsa Course and Prestwick, which staged the first Open Championship in 1860. The Highlands reward golfers willing to travel further north, with Royal Dornoch, Brora and Golspie on the Sutherland coast.
Scotland also has plenty of public golf. In Edinburgh, for example, Braid Hills and Silverknowes are open to visitors alongside the city's private clubs. Use the county filters below to explore courses in each part of Scotland.
