About Billingham Golf Club

Billingham Golf Club, on Teesside in County Durham, is centred on its principal layout known to members and visitors as the Imperial Course. The club maintains the seasonal disciplines expected of a well-run course, including keeping buggies off the ground until frost has cleared and asking golfers to repair pitch marks, replace divots and use divot bags to protect the playing surfaces through the year. Billingham grew during the twentieth century around the chemical and industrial works that once dominated this part of Teesside, and the town's public amenities, including its golf club, developed alongside that industrial expansion. The course sits within the flatter ground characteristic of this stretch of the Tees estuary, offering a straightforward test in the tradition of many north-east England clubs built to serve local industrial communities. Golf in this part of County Durham tends to combine accessible, well-maintained courses with strong local membership bases, and Billingham fits that pattern, providing year-round golf a short distance from Stockton-on-Tees and Middlesbrough. Its position close to the Tees gives members convenient access from across the wider Teesside conurbation, and the club's ongoing attention to course care through changing seasonal conditions reflects an established approach to managing a course on this low-lying ground.
