About Solway Village Golf Centre

Solway Village Golf Centre takes its name from the Solway Firth, the wide estuary separating Cumbria from Dumfries and Galloway and roughly enclosing the north-western corner of England. Carlisle, the nearest city, sits inland at the head of the firth, while the coastline running west from the city is low-lying and largely undeveloped, backed by farmland and small villages rather than resort towns. This stretch of coast has long been shaped by the tides of the Solway, which expose wide sand and mudflats at low water and give the area its open skies and long sightlines across to the Scottish hills. The CA5 postcode area covers a rural part of Cumbria between Carlisle and the coast, served by minor roads rather than a motorway, which keeps it quieter than the Lake District proper further south. The Solway coast is better known among birdwatchers and walkers than golfers, giving courses here a more remote, unhurried character than clubs closer to Carlisle's centre.
