Worfield Golf Club
About Worfield Golf Club
Worfield Golf Club is set in the Shropshire countryside near Bridgnorth, on the gentle slopes of what was once the Wyken Estate. The free-draining loam sand that underlies the course provides a stable base for tees and greens throughout the year, allowing play to continue in conditions that would leave heavier clay-based courses waterlogged. A mix of deciduous and coniferous trees lines much of the layout, giving the course a varied backdrop through the seasons, while a number of lakes come into play across the round, adding a further test for golfers required to carry water or lay up short of it. This combination of sandy ground, mixed woodland and water features gives Worfield a distinct character among Shropshire's golf courses, many of which sit on heavier clay soils further from the Severn valley. Bridgnorth itself is a historic market town split between a high and low town on the banks of the River Severn, and Worfield's rural setting nearby reflects the quieter, agricultural landscape typical of this part of Shropshire. Golfers looking for a course that plays firm and true across the seasons, thanks to its sandy base, will find Worfield a useful addition to a Shropshire golfing visit.
