About Flixton Golf Club

Flixton Golf Club takes its name from the village of Flixton, historically part of Cheshire before boundary changes redrew the area into what is now Greater Manchester. The M31 postcode area places the club within reach of Manchester's southwestern suburbs, in a part of the country where former Cheshire villages sit close to the edge of the wider conurbation. This borderland position is typical of several clubs in the area, which retain Cheshire in their identity and traditions even as the surrounding towns have grown into the Manchester urban area over the past century. The Mersey and its tributaries run through much of this part of the region, shaping the flatter, low-lying ground found around Flixton and neighbouring villages such as Urmston and Carrington. Golf clubs in this corridor between Manchester and the Cheshire countryside typically draw members from both the suburban towns and the more rural areas further south, giving them a mixed membership base. Flixton Golf Club sits within this pattern, offering local golfers a course close to home without needing to travel into the busier parts of Manchester or further out into open Cheshire countryside for a round.
