About SOUTHPORT GOLF LINKS

Southport Golf Links sits on reclaimed land close to the Irish Sea coast at Southport, a town on the Sefton coast of Merseyside that is one of England's most concentrated stretches of links golf, home to Royal Birkdale, Hillside and several other well-known courses within a few miles of each other. The layout runs across ground won back from the shoreline, a common pattern along this coast where dune systems and reclaimed flats have been shaped into golf terrain since the early twentieth century. Southport itself developed as a Victorian seaside resort, with its promenade, pier and formal gardens sitting alongside a golfing tradition that predates much of the town's other tourist infrastructure. The club's position within this cluster of links courses means it shares the maritime climate and sandy coastal soil that defines golf on this stretch of the north-west coast, distinct from the parkland and heathland courses found further inland in Lancashire and Cheshire. For golfers touring the Sefton coast's links circuit, Southport Golf Links is one of the more accessible options close to the town centre.
