Borth & Ynyslas Golf Club has been in existence since 1885, making it one of the oldest golf clubs in Ceredigion. It takes its name from the two places it serves: Borth, a long straggling settlement behind a shingle beach on Cardigan Bay, and Ynyslas, the dune and salt-marsh area at the mouth of the River Dyfi, now also protected as a nature reserve for its plant and bird life. This stretch of coast sits within Ceredigion, a sparsely populated county running down the mid-Wales coast, with the university town of Aberystwyth to the south providing the nearest sizeable centre. The Dyfi estuary marks the boundary with Gwynedd to the north, and the area is known for its dune systems, wading birds and long views across the bay. The setting, at least, has changed little: a remote and low-lying corner of the Cardigan Bay coast.
