Braemar Golf Club is an 18-hole course at Braemar, a village in the upper reaches of Royal Deeside on the eastern edge of the Cairngorms. Sitting at around 339 metres above sea level in the valley of the River Dee, Braemar lies close to Balmoral Castle and within the boundary of the Cairngorms National Park, an area of high granite mountains, pine forest and open moorland that makes this one of the more remote and elevated settlements in this part of Scotland. The village is best known beyond golf for the Braemar Gathering, held each September and traditionally attended by the Royal Family from nearby Balmoral, and for its position on the A93, one of the highest classified roads in Britain as it climbs over the Cairnwell Pass towards Glenshee. That combination of altitude and mountain surroundings gives courses at Braemar a setting shared by very few others in the UK, with the Cairngorms' high plateau visible from much of the upper Dee valley.
