Haigh Hall Golf Club

Haigh Hall Golf Club is based on the Balcarres course, an eighteen-hole layout within Haigh Country Park on the edge of Wigan. The course itself is a public one, owned and managed by Wigan Council rather than run privately, which keeps it open to pay-and-play golfers as well as to the registered club that plays over it. Haigh Hall Golf Club holds English Golf Union registration and organises club competitions and social golf on the Balcarres layout, with membership open to men and women of all ages and standards of play. The wider country park setting brings mature woodland and open parkland around the course, in keeping with the surroundings of Haigh Country Park itself. Because the course is council-run, casual visitors can book a round without needing an introduction through a member, while the club side of things provides a more structured, competitive outlet for those who join. This dual identity, part public course and part members' club, gives Haigh Hall a broader mix of players than a typical private course, from families and beginners taking advantage of pay-and-play access through to competitive club golfers contesting regular events on the Balcarres course.
