Horsforth Golf Club runs its 18 holes close to Leeds Bradford Airport, on ground shaped by tree-lined fairways and greens that are kept fast and true. Two holes in particular illustrate the variety in the routing. The 10th is a short par four of little over 300 yards, playing as a genuine risk-reward option for those willing to attempt a blind drive at the green with out of bounds lurking down the left side of the dog-leg. At the other end of the scale, the 18th stretches to nearly 550 yards, climbing over the brow of a hill before an S-shaped fairway drops down toward a green defended at the front by a pond, with the clubhouse forming the backdrop to the closing shot. Elsewhere the course leans on tree-lined corridors and a set of demanding par threes to test accuracy as much as length. Members and visitors return afterwards to a clubhouse designed for a relaxed meal or drink, and the club's position on the western edge of Leeds, close to the airport, makes it a convenient stop for golfers travelling through the area as much as for local members.
