Huyton & Prescot Golf Club was founded in 1905 and plays over eighteen holes at Huyton, on the eastern edge of Merseyside between Liverpool and Knowsley. The club dates from a period when golf was expanding rapidly around Liverpool and the Wirral, as new suburbs and improving rail links opened up commuter towns like Huyton and Prescot to the game. This part of Merseyside sits on the boundary between Liverpool's built-up suburbs and the more open farmland of west Lancashire, and clubs founded here in the early twentieth century typically took root on whatever established parkland or farmland was available close to the new housing. Huyton and Prescot themselves grew together as industrial and commuter towns through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, with the M62 now running close by, linking the area to both Liverpool and Manchester. The club's more than a century of history places it among the older golf clubs serving Merseyside's eastern suburbs.
