Knowle Golf Club

🤍

Knowle takes its name from the Bristol suburb in which the club sits, on rising ground south of the city centre between Brislington and Bishopsworth. This part of Bristol was largely built up in the interwar and postwar periods, and the golf course occupies one of the larger surviving green spaces in that arc of the city, bordered by residential streets rather than open countryside. Bristol's terrain is famously uneven, cut through by the Avon Gorge and a series of steep-sided valleys, and the land around Knowle shares that undulating character rather than the flat parkland found elsewhere in the south-west. The club sits within easy reach of the A4 and A37, arterial routes into central Bristol, making it one of the more accessible courses for golfers living in the city itself rather than the surrounding countryside. As an established suburban club, Knowle represents the kind of course built to serve a growing city population during the decades when Bristol's boundaries were expanding fastest.
