Preston Golf Club

Preston Golf Club was founded in 1892, placing it among the older established clubs in Lancashire, formed during the period when the game expanded rapidly across the industrial towns of the north-west. The club sits on the northern side of Preston, a city that grew into one of Lancashire's principal cotton-manufacturing centres during the nineteenth century before its docks and mills declined through the twentieth. Preston's position at the meeting point of several major road corridors, including the M6 and M55, has made it a transport hub for Lancashire and the wider Fylde coast, a role that dates back to its historic status as the county town. The course plays over eighteen holes to a par of 71 and measures 6,278 yards. The surrounding countryside north of the city rises gently towards the Bowland fells, giving this part of Lancashire a more varied, hillier character than the flatter coastal plain around Blackpool and the Fylde to the west. Preston itself retains a mix of Victorian civic architecture and postwar redevelopment, reflecting its long history as both an industrial centre and county administrative seat.
