RAF Henlow Golf Club
RAF Henlow Golf Club is based at RAF Henlow, a Royal Air Force station in Bedfordshire between Hitchin and Biggleswade, with Stevenage also within easy reach to the south. The course sits within the wider RAF Henlow site, a station with a long history in British military aviation stretching back to the early twentieth century, giving the golf club a setting distinct from a typical civilian club built on farmland or a country estate. Membership and playing rights have traditionally been connected to service personnel and the wider defence community associated with the station, alongside civilian members drawn from the surrounding Bedfordshire towns. The club takes part in local league competition against other clubs in the county, fielding teams in matches that form part of the regular Bedfordshire golfing calendar. Bedfordshire's flat, open farmland around Henlow and the nearby Ivel Valley provides the wider backdrop to the station and its grounds, a landscape shaped as much by agriculture as by the military infrastructure built up around the airfield over the decades. The combination of a working RAF station and an active golf club gives RAF Henlow Golf Club an unusual identity among Bedfordshire's golf clubs, tied to the base's history rather than to a private estate or a commercial pay-and-play operation.
