The Goodwood Club
The Goodwood Club traces its origins to a meeting held on 15 July 1892, when six gentlemen from Sussex gathered to propose forming a golf club to serve Chichester and the surrounding district. That founding gathering set in motion what would become one of the established clubs of West Sussex, situated near Goodwood within reach of Chichester and Bognor Regis. The area combines coastal flatland with the chalk downland that rises just inland, a landscape long associated with the wider Goodwood estate, whose grounds sit close to the golf club's own. The club's postcode, PO18, places it within the rural parishes east of Chichester, an area of farmland, woodland and downland scenery typical of this stretch of the Sussex coast. Since those late-Victorian beginnings, the club has remained part of the golfing fabric of the region, offering play within reach of Chichester, Bognor Regis and the wider South Downs National Park. Its position close to the Goodwood estate places it within one of southern England's more recognisable countryside settings, a landscape of parkland, downland and coastal views that draws visitors to this part of West Sussex for reasons well beyond golf. Members and visiting golfers alike continue a tradition of play here stretching back well over a century.
