Bellshill Golf Club, based at Orbiston in Bellshill, was established in 1905 and has operated as a members' club in the area for well over a century. The eighteen-hole course is laid out across ground that includes a number of slopes, and golfers are likely to do a reasonable amount of walking uphill during a round, a feature that adds to the physical demands of the course beyond its length alone. Bunkering is placed strategically around the layout, positioned to catch wayward shots and to bring an added level of thought into approach play on several holes. The club has built a welcoming reputation among visiting golfers, with a club atmosphere generally described as friendly towards both members and guests. Sitting within the wider Lanarkshire area close to the Clyde valley, Bellshill draws players from the surrounding towns as well as its own membership. Over its long history since the early twentieth century, the club has maintained its course through changing conditions typical of Scottish golf clubs of this age, and it continues to run a full events calendar alongside its day-to-day membership and visitor golf. The combination of sloped terrain, strategic bunkering and a long-standing local presence gives Bellshill a distinct identity among Lanarkshire's golf clubs.
