Bigbury Golf Club

Bigbury Golf Club is located above Bigbury-on-Sea on the South Devon coast, near Kingsbridge and within sight of the Avon estuary and Burgh Island. The course has associations with JH Taylor, the noted English golfer, reflected in the club's own account of its holes and history. A regular fixture at the club is the Friday Circus, an informal, turn-up-and-play event run to Stableford rules and open to visiting golfers as well as members, with entry paid in the clubhouse lounge after settling the green fee in the golf shop. The course is played from white, blue and orange tees, and the club maintains a published slope rating alongside a dress code for those visiting. Buggies are available for hire. Bigbury-on-Sea itself is known for its wide sandy beach and the tidal sea tractor crossing to Burgh Island, giving the wider area a distinctive South Devon coastal character quite different from the county's more inland courses. The club's coastal position near Kingsbridge places it within a part of Devon popular with holidaymakers, and its social Friday event gives visiting golfers an easy way to join a game without a pre-arranged group.
