Bury St Edmunds Golf Club runs two courses on the edge of the Suffolk town, with the 18-hole layout serving as the main test at 6,087 yards, a distance considered long for an inland course when it was first measured. That course is used regularly as a venue for regional competitions, helped by ground that stays playable across the seasons and by the club's continued upkeep of it. A second course and a driving range round out the practice and playing options on site. The clubhouse includes function rooms with views across the fairways, used for private events alongside the everyday running of the club. Bury St Edmunds itself grew up around its Benedictine abbey, one of medieval England's wealthiest religious houses, and the town's Georgian centre and Abbey Gardens still sit close to the ruins today. It lies in west Suffolk, on the Lark valley, within reach of Newmarket to the west and Ipswich to the south-east, in a part of East Anglia known for arable farming and brewing. The golf club sits within this landscape on the fringe of the town, a short distance from the historic core.
