Calcot Park Golf Club

Calcot Park Golf Club was designed by Harry Colt and opened in 1930 on the western edge of Reading, close to the Berkshire border. The eighteen-hole course plays to a par of 70 over roughly 6,300 yards, set within a private estate that gives the grounds a settled, mature character shaped by nearly a century of growth since Colt laid out the design. Colt's other work in the area includes Wentworth's East and West courses in Surrey, along with Sunningdale Old and Swinley Forest, placing Calcot Park within a well-regarded group of courses from the same designer. The layout includes two par fives reachable in two shots by longer hitters, alongside four par threes, the best known of which is the seventh, played across a lake to a raised green. The course is known locally for the quality of its greens, which sit on undulating ground across the estate. Calcot lies on the western fringe of Reading, within a landscape that mixes suburban development with pockets of preserved parkland such as the club's own grounds. The combination of Colt's design pedigree and the club's private estate setting has given Calcot Park a long-standing reputation among Berkshire's golf clubs.
