Nine holes at Chesham & Ley Hill Golf Club are laid out among oak woodland on Ley Hill common, on the high ground above Chesham in the Chiltern Hills. The course has small greens and asks for straight tee shots rather than length; the opening hole, The May Tree, plays 255 yards for men and 235 yards for ladies as a par 4 with a stroke index of 18 and 16 respectively. Membership carries no joining fee and allows play without a tee-time booking, alongside entry to club competitions and events. Visitors are welcomed and can book green fees online in advance; on the day, play is restricted to the yellow or red tees. A putting green and practice net sit beside the clubhouse, which is staffed by bar personnel serving food and drinks. A dress code applies, excluding t-shirts, jeans, tracksuits and cargo shorts. Chesham itself sits in a valley of the River Chess in the Chiltern Hills, within the Buckinghamshire postcode area HP5, at the northern end of the Metropolitan line, with Ley Hill common rising to the south-east of the town.
