Coulsdon Court Golf Club

Coulsdon Court lies on the southern edge of Croydon, on ground laid out as a golf course in the early 1920s by the Cearn family, who then owned the land, working with the architect Harry S. Colt. The golf club itself came later, formed in 1938 to give local players a settled base and organised competition rather than casual use of the ground. During the 1930s the course was leased to Croydon Council under terms that specifically required it to remain a public course, and that arrangement has defined the club ever since. Rather than operating a closed membership, Coulsdon Court has continued to welcome both members and visiting golfers under the original municipal agreement, making it one of the longer-running public courses in the area. The Colt design dates the routing to a period when many of Surrey's heathland and parkland courses were being laid out, and the layout still carries the hallmarks of that era's course architecture. Set among the residential districts on Croydon's southern approach, the club offers straightforward access for casual rounds as well as club golf, continuing a role it has held for close to a century.
