Cullen Golf Club

Cullen is a small town on the Moray Firth coast in the former county of Banffshire, a few miles west of Buckie. The town split into two distinct parts in the nineteenth century when the Earl of Seafield had the old settlement moved back from his estate, leaving the harbour district of Seatown by the shore and a newer square laid out on higher ground above it. Two stone railway viaducts, built for a line that closed under the Beeching cuts, still stride across the edge of the town and remain one of its most recognisable features. The beach below is marked by a line of sandstone sea stacks known locally as the Three Kings. Cullen gave its name to Cullen skink, the smoked haddock and potato soup associated with fishing communities along this coast. The surrounding ground rises from the shoreline into farmland and low hills typical of the Moray Firth coastline, with Buckie the larger neighbouring town to the east and Banffshire's fishing heritage still visible in the harbours dotted along this stretch of coast. The climate here is drier than much of the rest of Scotland, sheltered by higher ground inland.
