Dummer Golf Club
Dummer Golf Club is set within more than 165 acres of countryside near Basingstoke in Hampshire, with a par-72 course designed by Peter Alliss, the golfer and broadcaster who went on to design several courses in England after his playing career. The layout was planned to work with the natural contours of the land, and a number of lakes were introduced across the course alongside bunkering and changes in elevation that shape the strategy of individual holes. The scale of the site, extending well beyond the minimum needed for a single course, allows for wide separation between holes and space for practice facilities alongside the main layout. Positioned close to Basingstoke, the club offers golfers in this part of north Hampshire a course built specifically for golf rather than adapted from existing farmland, with Alliss's design bringing water hazards into play on several holes. The combination of a broadcaster-turned-designer's layout and the generous acreage available for the course gives Dummer a distinct identity among the golf clubs in the wider Basingstoke area, with the lakes in particular forming a recurring feature across the round.
