Hennerton Golf Club

Hennerton Golf Club, at Wargrave on the Berkshire and Oxfordshire border, began life as a nine-hole course in May 1992 before expanding to a full eighteen holes in June 2006, giving the club more than three decades of history on the same site. The original nine holes were laid out by Colonel Dion Beard, who also had a hand in designing Sandford Springs, while the later extension was designed by Gaunt & Marnoch, with the new holes planned to preserve the ecology of the site as it expanded into land recognised for its natural beauty. The course sits within countryside overlooking the Thames Valley, and the layout's signature hole is generally considered to be the 16th, a 183-yard par three that plays across a steep-sided valley. The front nine in particular carries several par threes that put a premium on short-game accuracy rather than distance. A driving range with eight bays fitted with TopTracer ball-tracking technology is available to members and visitors alongside the course itself. Despite its relatively modest length compared with some of the region's bigger courses, Hennerton is generally regarded as a course that rewards strategic play and accuracy over power.
