Ludlow Golf Club

Ludlow Golf Club dates to 1889, making it one of the older established clubs on the Shropshire and Herefordshire border. The course has occupied its current site since a 1927 redesign attributed to James Braid, the prolific Scottish architect whose work shaped hundreds of British courses in the interwar decades, and much of that period layout is still recognisable today. Ludlow itself is a market town in south Shropshire, close to the Herefordshire boundary and the wooded hills of the Mortimer Forest and Clee Hills, an area of steep-sided valleys and pasture rather than flat lowland. The club sits within reach of the town centre and the wider south Shropshire countryside, a district known for its late-Victorian and Edwardian golf development as much as for its market-town history. Well over a century after formation, it remains among the longer-established golf institutions in this part of the Marches, a region straddling the England-Wales border characterised by rolling farmland, ridges and river valleys.
