About this course

Sand Martins takes its name from the small migratory birds that nest in burrows along riverbanks and sand faces across the Thames valley, a fitting reference for a course in the Wokingham area of Berkshire. Wokingham sits in the belt of heath, woodland and gravel terrace that runs between Reading and Bracknell, land shaped by the sand and gravel deposits left by the Thames and its tributaries over thousands of years, the same geology that gives the town's older heathland areas their distinctive character. The club plays over eighteen holes and lies within reach of both Reading, a few miles to the west, and the M4 corridor that has drawn commuter development into this part of Berkshire since the 1980s. Wokingham itself has grown from a market town into one of the more affluent Thames valley commuter towns, its surrounding countryside increasingly hemmed in by development even as pockets of woodland and farmland survive around the edges. The course occupies one such pocket on the southern side of the town.

Sand Martins Golf Club plays over 18 holes.
