Sandhill Golf Club
Sandhill Golf Club, in Little Houghton in South Yorkshire, was built in 1991 and 1992 before opening for play in 1993, making it a relatively recent addition compared with many of the region's older established clubs. Since then the course has continued to develop, with ongoing work carried out gradually rather than as a single major overhaul, allowing the layout to settle and mature over time since it first opened. The club operates seven days a week and asks golfers to call ahead to book a tee time, a straightforward booking system that keeps play organised across both member and visitor rounds. Being a course that opened in the early 1990s, Sandhill reflects a more modern style of design compared with the Victorian and Edwardian-era clubs found elsewhere in South Yorkshire, having been laid out with contemporary course management techniques from the outset. Little Houghton itself is a small village in South Yorkshire, and the golf club gives the area a nearby course without the need to travel into Barnsley or the larger towns further afield. With continuing improvement work built into how the club is run, Sandhill has moved on from its early years into a more settled, established phase, while still open to further changes to the layout over time.
