Shendish Manor Golf Club forms part of a wider hotel and golf estate set across 160 acres of parkland outside Hemel Hempstead, in the Hertfordshire countryside. The eighteen-hole course threads through mixed woodland and landscaped grounds surrounding the manor house, which today operates as a hotel alongside the golf operation, with the clubhouse positioned to look out over the course itself. The estate also hosts business meetings, conferences and life events such as weddings, using the manor building and grounds outside of golfing hours. As a hotel-based course rather than a traditional members' club, Shendish Manor is set up to take golfers staying on-site as well as day visitors and society groups. Hemel Hempstead grew rapidly after being designated one of the New Towns built in the years following the Second World War, though the older parts of the borough, including the countryside around Shendish, retain the parkland and farmland character that predates that expansion. The manor itself sits within the Gade Valley, on ground that historically formed part of a private estate before its conversion to hotel and leisure use, and the golf course's character owes as much to that older estate landscape as to any deliberate design.
