The Woldingham

The Woldingham golf course lies in a valley setting within the village of Woldingham, on the Surrey side of the North Downs close to the Kent border. The downland terrain rises and falls naturally across the course, in keeping with the chalk ridge that runs through this part of Surrey, and the layout takes in views across the surrounding Downs from several of its higher points. Woldingham is known for its elevated, wooded setting and for being one of the highest villages in Surrey, reached by winding lanes climbing up from the Caterham valley below. The wider North Downs landscape combines open chalk grassland with beech and yew woodland, giving courses built into this terrain a naturally undulating character rather than a flattened, artificially shaped one. Woldingham's position places it within reach of both Croydon to the north and Oxted and Godstone to the south, on the boundary between London's southern commuter belt and the more rural Surrey Downs. The course's setting within this valley, surrounded by rising downland on either side, gives it a more enclosed feel than some of the open, exposed courses found on higher ground elsewhere along the North Downs ridge.
