Thorne Golf Club

🤍

Thorne Golf Club is a family-owned club near Doncaster, in the flat, low-lying country of the Yorkshire and Humberside borderland where the rivers Don, Trent and Ouse converge before draining into the Humber estuary. This part of eastern England, drained and reclaimed over centuries for arable farming, gives the area around Thorne a distinctly flat, open character quite different from the Pennine hills further west in Yorkshire. Thorne itself is a small market town with a history tied to peat extraction and river trade before the drainage of the surrounding moors and carrs turned the land over to farming. The club operates as a parkland course with membership and lesson provision alongside general play, a common structure for family-run clubs that combine coaching with day-to-day member golf rather than positioning themselves as a resort or pay-and-play operation. Its position close to Doncaster gives it reach into South Yorkshire's golfing population as well as the flatter Humberside towns to the east, sitting at the edge of two golfing regions rather than firmly within either.
