Alderney Golf Club

Alderney Golf Club is located on Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands and the closest of them to the French coast, lying around eight miles off Cap de la Hague in Normandy. The island is the northernmost of the main Channel Islands group and forms part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, though it has its own parliament, the States of Alderney, and manages many of its own local affairs. Alderney measures only about three and a half miles by one and a half miles, giving it a compact, walkable landscape of low cliffs, heathland and small bays around a coastline shaped by strong tidal currents in the surrounding waters. Its main settlement, St Anne, sits on high ground near the centre of the island, with the harbour town of Braye below it on the north coast. The island was heavily fortified during both World Wars, and the remains of nineteenth-century forts and wartime defences are still visible across the landscape today. Alderney's small population and relative remoteness, reached by air or ferry from Guernsey or the English mainland, give it a quieter character than the larger islands of Jersey and Guernsey nearby.
