Ashbourne Golf Club

Ashbourne Golf Club is recognised as the oldest golf club in Derbyshire, even though the course played today was substantially redesigned by architect David Hemstock and reopened in its current form in 1999, with parts of the layout dating back considerably further. The main course measures 6,306 yards from the white tees and plays to a par of 71, while the ladies' course runs to 5,402 yards at a par of 72. Set close to Thorpe Cloud, Dovedale and the Weaver Hills, all within the Peak District, the course takes in extended views across this stretch of upland countryside, with the terrain reflecting the more dramatic topography found on the southern edge of the Peaks. This combination of an old club history and a comparatively modern redesign gives Ashbourne a layout with contemporary course management alongside a long-standing local identity. The market town of Ashbourne itself sits right at the entrance to the Peak District, often described as its southern gateway, and the golf club's setting takes full advantage of that position. Both club competitions and county-level matches are held on the course, and the World Handicap System tables used for visiting golfers are published through the club to support fair scoring across variable Peak District conditions.
