Ashton-under-Lyne Golf Club

Six miles east of Manchester city centre, in the foothills of the Pennines, Ashton-under-Lyne golf club has run for more than a century as a course combining parkland and wooded ground. The town lies within Tameside, part of Greater Manchester since the 1974 reorganisation of local government, having previously sat within the historic county of Lancashire, a status the club still reflects through its use as a Lancashire county golf venue. The course covers just over 6,200 yards across eighteen holes and plays to a par of 70, with four tees available and course ratings recorded at 70.5, 68.3 and 65.0 from the men's tees, and a slope rating of 129 from the women's tees. Mature trees and undulating ground shape the layout, with bunkers positioned through the fairways and larger greens at the putting surfaces. The clubhouse includes a function room, a balcony overlooking the course, a licensed bar and catering, and the club provides on-site parking for members and visitors. It is regarded locally as the leading course in the Tameside area. The Pennines rise to the east of the town, forming the upland ground against which the course is set, while Manchester's built-up area extends close to the west.
