Castle Park Golf Club's 18 holes lie at the foot of the Lammermuir Hills near Haddington, the East Lothian county town that sits a short distance inland from the Firth of Forth coast. Haddington itself is one of Scotland's better-preserved Georgian market towns, with a history stretching back to the medieval period as a royal burgh. The Lammermuirs rise to the south of the town, forming a band of rounded, heather-covered hills that separate East Lothian's coastal lowlands from the Borders beyond, and Castle Park's position at their edge places the course on the transition between farmed lowland and open hill ground. East Lothian more broadly is known for its concentration of links courses along the Firth of Forth coast, but Haddington sits inland from that coastline, giving Castle Park a different, hillier setting than the county's seaside clubs at Gullane, North Berwick and Dunbar.
