Dainton Park Golf Club

South Devon's market town of Newton Abbot sits on the River Teign, within reach of both the coast at Teignmouth and the high ground of Dartmoor to the west. Dainton Park Golf Club, on the edge of the town, was commissioned in 1993 and designed by the Bristol-based architect Adrian Stiff, who laid out eighteen holes with large greens built in the American style across 125 acres of countryside. The clubhouse opened to members and visitors in May of the same year. Facilities built up over the following decades include a ten-bay floodlit driving range, a coaching swing studio and a pro shop. Dining is available in the Oak Room Restaurant, in the Orangery, and on a south-facing terrace. The venue is used for wedding ceremonies and receptions as well as business meetings, and the club runs a programme of membership packages, tournaments and social events through the year. Newton Abbot grew as a market and railway town in the nineteenth century, serving the surrounding agricultural land of the Teign valley, and it remains a route point between Exeter, Torbay and the South Hams. The TQ12 postcode area covers the town and the countryside immediately around it, including the ground on which the course is laid out.
