Sparkwell Golf Club

Sparkwell sits in south Devon countryside a few miles east of Plymouth, on the edge of ground that rises towards Dartmoor's southern moorland. The village itself is small, better known locally for the wildlife park on its outskirts than for golf, and the surrounding landscape is a mix of wooded combes and pasture typical of the transition zone between Plymouth's suburbs and the open moor. Dartmoor's granite tors are visible from the higher points around the village, giving the area a more upland character than the coastal parts of south Devon closer to Plymouth Sound. Plymouth itself, a few miles to the south-west, is the largest city in Devon and provides the main population base for clubs in this part of the county, while the A38 running between Exeter and Plymouth gives the area good road access without bringing heavy traffic through the village itself. The PL7 postcode district covers this eastern fringe of Plymouth, where the built-up city gives way fairly abruptly to open Devon countryside.
