Gosforth Golf Club

🤍

Gosforth Golf Club occupies a secluded pocket of land only a few minutes from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, giving members and visitors a course that feels removed from the city despite its convenient location. The layout, known locally as the Bridlepath course, includes several holes shaped by the Ouseburn, the small river that crosses the site and comes into play at its widest point alongside one of the longer par-four holes, where a hedge lines the opposite side of the fairway. Hidden bunkers feature on a number of holes, catching wayward tee shots that might otherwise seem to have found a safe line, and several greens sit in basin-like settings that are well protected by surrounding sand. The club runs active Ladies, Men's and Seniors sections, giving the membership a range of organised golf beyond regular weekend play, and visitors are welcomed throughout the year. Despite its proximity to the city, the course retains a quiet, established feel typical of clubs founded well before Newcastle's suburbs expanded around them. The mix of river holes, hidden hazards and sheltered greens gives Gosforth a course that rewards local knowledge as much as raw length off the tee.
