Langdon Hills Golf Club
Langdon Hills Golf Club lies at Bulphan, a small Essex village between Basildon and the Thames estuary crossing at Grays, in the borough of Thurrock. The area takes its name from the low ridge of Langdon Hills immediately to the south, a stretch of high ground overlooking the Thames marshes that has long been valued as one of the higher viewpoints in south Essex, with the country park of the same name protecting woodland and grassland close by. Bulphan itself remains a rural settlement of scattered farms and lanes rather than a large village centre, set among the fields that separate the built-up Basildon and Thurrock areas from the open Essex countryside further north. The wider district has a long agricultural history, with the heavy London clay soils of the region traditionally given over to arable farming and grazing. The M25 and A13 both pass within a few miles, giving the area straightforward road access from London and the Thames Gateway towns, while the Langdon Hills themselves offer views across the estuary towards Kent on clear days. Golf here is played against this backdrop of ridge and marsh landscape typical of south Essex.
