At Rookery Park, on the Carlton Colville side of Lowestoft, the municipal course stretches to 6,714 yards from the back tees and plays to a par of 72 across eighteen holes. The design is the work of C. D. Lawrie, an architect who also advised the Royal and Ancient's championship committee, and the routing balances four par fives against four short par threes. The fifth is the longest test on the card at 550 yards, while the ninth, at just 138 yards, is the shortest. Alongside the main course sits a separate par-three layout, aimed squarely at newcomers and junior golfers taking their first swings at the game. Being council-run, Rookery Park keeps green fees accessible without sacrificing the scale of a full eighteen-hole test, and the open, well-tended fairways suit players across the handicap range. The club address on Beccles Road places it on the southern fringe of Lowestoft, within Suffolk's coastal belt, giving it a slightly different character to the county's inland heathland courses. Membership, society bookings and professional tuition are all handled through the on-site pro shop.
