Murrayshall Golf Club
Murrayshall Golf Club is set in the countryside near Perth, the historic Scottish town on the River Tay often called the Gateway to the Highlands for its position where the lowlands give way to more mountainous country further north. The land around Perth combines fertile farmland in the Tay valley with wooded estate grounds, a pattern typical of Perthshire's country houses, many of which were built by wealthy families in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and later converted to hotel or leisure use. The Tay itself is one of Scotland's longest rivers, and the broad, low-lying carse of land either side of it around Perth has long supported both agriculture and estates of the kind that now host golf. Fife lies across the wider Tay estuary to the south-east, connected historically by ferry and now by road and rail bridges, part of the network of lowland Scottish counties that meet around Perth's position at the head of the tidal Tay.
