Oswestry Golf Club plays over Aston Park, on the edge of the Shropshire town from which it takes its name, close to the Welsh border. The 18-hole parkland layout was designed by James Braid and has produced two Ryder Cup captains among its members over the years. It is a private club that nonetheless takes visiting golfers, with green fees ranging from £50 to £80, and it has held the top ranking among Shropshire courses on the Top100golfcourses website as of May 2025. The course is known for holding its condition consistently through the seasons, and members note that its front nine plays somewhat easier than the closing nine. A terrace at the clubhouse looks out over several holes, and the club runs an academy programme aimed at introducing new lady golfers to the game through free taster sessions. Facilities include a pro shop and full clubhouse amenities, and the club also runs open competitions and hosts golf societies. Oswestry sits in the north-west corner of Shropshire, within reach of the Shropshire Hills and the Welsh hills beyond Offa's Dyke, an area long associated with border history and market towns.
