Petworth Golf Club
Petworth Golf Club takes its name from the historic West Sussex market town a short distance from its postcode area, in the rolling countryside between the South Downs and the Surrey border. Petworth itself is best known for Petworth House and Park, the National Trust estate with its deer park and extensive grounds, and the wider area is characterised by farmland, woodland and the kind of undulating terrain typical of the Sussex Weald. A golf club in this setting sits within reach of Midhurst, Pulborough and the South Downs National Park, an area popular with walkers and countryside visitors as well as golfers. The GU28 postcode places the club on the western side of West Sussex, closer to the Hampshire border than to the county's coastal towns, giving it a more inland, rural character than clubs nearer Chichester or Worthing. This part of West Sussex is known for its historic estates and country houses, of which Petworth House is the most prominent, and golf clubs in the surrounding villages generally reflect that same traditional, rural setting. Golfers visiting the area often combine a round with wider exploration of the South Downs countryside nearby.
