Princes Golf Club
Princes Golf Club is located at Sandwich on the Kent coast, in the stretch of dune land and flat coastal marsh that also holds Royal St George's and Royal Cinque Ports, making this corner of east Kent one of the most concentrated areas of links golf in England. Sandwich itself is a medieval Cinque Port town, once a working harbour on the River Stour before the coastline silted up and shifted the sea further east, leaving the town set back from the water it was built to serve. The flat, sandy ground between Sandwich and the coast, shaped by centuries of shifting dunes and drained marshland, gives this area the firm, undulating turf associated with links terrain rather than the parkland found further inland in Kent. The club's position on this stretch of coast places it within a short distance of Sandwich Bay and Deal, in a part of east Kent that has drawn golfers to its dunes and open links country since the late nineteenth century.
