St. Cleres Hall Golf Club

St. Cleres Hall Golf Club, near Stanford-le-Hope, opened its eighteen-hole course in 1994 on a sizeable stretch of rolling ground, with the scale of the site meaning that most holes are well separated from their neighbours rather than tightly packed together. The course was designed to give golfers of varying ability a genuine challenge without being unduly severe for less experienced players, making use of the natural contours across the land it occupies. Green fees are tiered by day, with non-members paying £20 on weekdays and £25 at weekends, guests accompanying a member paying a reduced £16 on weekdays and £20 at weekends, and a separate £6 rate for the club's par three course. A dress code applies to all players, ruling out denim jeans, tracksuit bottoms, trainers and round-neck t-shirts on the course. Alongside the main eighteen-hole layout, the par three option gives golfers a shorter, more informal alternative for practice or a quicker round. Since opening in the mid-1990s, St. Cleres Hall has built a tiered pricing and dress code structure typical of established members' and pay-and-play hybrid clubs, giving both regular members and visiting golfers clear expectations before they arrive to play.
