Saltford Golf Club was founded in 1904 and plays over 18 holes to a par of 71, in the village of Saltford on the River Avon between Bristol and Bath. Saltford sits in the Avon Valley, where the river winds through a corridor of low hills separating the two cities, with the Bristol to Bath cycle path, built along a former railway line, running close to the village. The BS31 postcode covers this stretch of the valley, an area that combines riverside meadows with the wooded slopes typical of the Avon's course through north Somerset. The club's founding in 1904 makes it one of the longer-established courses in the area, predating much of the twentieth-century growth that has since linked Saltford more closely to both Bristol and Bath by road and rail. The village itself retains a distinct identity, with its own railway station on the original Great Western main line and a riverside setting used for rowing as well as golf.
