South Essex Golf & Country Club
Brentwood sits on a ridge of high ground in south Essex, historically a coaching stop on the old road out of London towards Chelmsford and East Anglia, and now one of the county's more affluent commuter towns within the M25's outer edge. The land around Brentwood is part of the London Clay belt running through this part of Essex, gently rolling and well wooded in places, with Thorndon Country Park and its ancient parkland close by. A golf and country club in this location sits within reach of both the built-up fringe of east London and genuinely open Essex farmland, a transition zone typical of the boroughs just outside the capital's boundary. Brentwood's elevated position gives the surrounding countryside some of the longer views in south Essex, out across the Thames basin towards Kent on a clear day. The town's proximity to the M25 and the A12 makes it one of the more accessible parts of Essex for golfers travelling in from London itself.
