Sutton Coldfield Golf Club, in the West Midlands town of the same name, was established in 1893 on heathland to the north of Birmingham. In the early 1920s the layout underwent substantial reconstruction under the guidance of the golf course architect Alister MacKenzie, whose work elsewhere includes some of the game's most admired designs. The heathland ground drains quickly, allowing play to continue through wetter periods of the year without the course becoming heavy underfoot. Set among the birch, pine and gorse typical of this part of the wider Sutton Park landscape, the course has long been ranked among the leading inland courses in England, appearing in national top-100 listings. Multiple tee options are provided, with course ratings and slope figures published for each set, giving golfers of different standards a way to judge the challenge before teeing off. The club sits within B74, on the northern edge of Sutton Coldfield, an area known for its extensive parkland and proximity to the wider Birmingham conurbation. Its century-long history and the MacKenzie connection give it a distinct place among the region's golfing venues, drawing both members and visiting golfers to its fairways year-round.
