The Hindhead Golf Club

The Hindhead Golf Club was formed in 1904 by a group of founders that included the writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and the course laid out for them was the work of J.H. Taylor, one of the leading professionals of the era. The ground sits among heather and pine woodland typical of the Surrey Hills around Hindhead, with the natural vegetation left to frame rather than replace the terrain. PGA-qualified professionals based at the club run lessons and clinics covering the full range of ability, from juniors and newer members through to low-handicap and professional players. Golf societies, corporate groups and charity days are catered for, with the club aiming to give visiting parties a well-run day regardless of group size. Hindhead itself stands on high ground in the Surrey Hills, close to the Devil's Punch Bowl, one of the largest natural amphitheatres in southern England, and the course benefits from the same sandy heathland that draws walkers to the surrounding area. The club continues to operate much as it has since the early twentieth century, blending heathland golf with a long-standing membership tradition centred on Hindhead.
