Thetford Golf Club

Thetford Golf Club is set on the edge of Thetford, a historic market town on the Norfolk and Suffolk border, close to where the rivers Thet and Little Ouse meet. The town sits within Breckland, an area of sandy heath and forest that gives way to Thetford Forest immediately to the south, the largest lowland pine forest in England and a landscape that has shaped much of the golf found in this part of East Anglia. Courses in the Brecks typically make use of the free-draining sandy soil beneath the heath and forest, producing firm, fast-running turf more akin to heathland golf than the heavier clay found elsewhere in East Anglia, and Thetford's course sits within that tradition. The town itself has a long history stretching back to Anglo-Saxon and medieval times, once serving as an important regional centre, and its combination of historic streets, riverside setting and surrounding forest gives the area a distinctive character among East Anglian golfing destinations. Thetford's position close to the A11 corridor between Norwich and Cambridge makes the course accessible to golfers travelling across the region, while its Breckland setting marks it out from the flatter, more agricultural land found further into the Fens or the Norfolk Broads.
