Whiteleaf Golf Club

Whiteleaf Golf Club has occupied its nine-hole course in the Chiltern Hills, just outside Princes Risborough, since it opened in 1907. The club sits within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, on ground that rises and falls across the chalk escarpment typical of this stretch of Buckinghamshire, giving the course a naturally undulating character rather than one shaped by heavy landscaping. Its nine holes are designed to suit both newcomers to the game and more experienced golfers, offering a shorter round without sacrificing the variety expected of a full course. Whiteleaf as a place takes its name from the chalk cross cut into the hillside above the village, a well-known local landmark visible from the surrounding countryside, and the golf club shares in that hillside setting on the edge of the escarpment. The clubhouse remains open to members, their guests and visiting golfers, providing a base for refreshments before or after a round. Over more than a century of play, Whiteleaf has kept its identity as a small, characterful club rather than expanding to a full eighteen holes, and it continues to draw golfers keen to experience the Chilterns' hillier, more compact style of course alongside the area's larger inland layouts.
